Gunnison’s claim to fame is that it is one of the coldest places in the country in the winter months. Because of it sits at the bottom of several valleys, it’s easy for the cooler air to settle among the snowpack. It also means that the summers are absolutely unparalleled, especially with views of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The Canyon will expose you to some of the oldest rock, biggest crags, and steepest cliffs in North America. We highly recommend catching a sunset.
